NFU Mutual to the Rescue
It was certainly FAB for the Sculptress JOEL at the Leicestershire County Show this year.
The high winds had not been able to move her show gazebo since it was well lashed down, but the sides blew in and the zip broke meaning the display and sculptures were under threat.
Says JOEL All this happened just as the public were being allowed in, and after the time we were allowed to move vehicles - there I am with thousands of pounds of sculptures and the threat of rain and an increasingly dangerous gazebo - then it was NFU Mutual to the rescue - in the person of Stephen Jeal from the Melton Mowbray branch who was in charge of their marquee opposite.
I knew Stephen from a time when I had the privilege of raising funds for RABI during foot and mouth. I had helped organise and run a special Art exhibition with donations, entry and profits going to RABI.
When the disaster struck I went across and talked to him and he so kindly offered a corner of the NFU Mutual Marquee.Over the two days the weather was dry enough for me to do some demonstrating of work in progress on a Thoroughbred racehorse and a life sized lamb.
We had samples of clay for people to try and an example of a mould that had been taken from the sculpture of a dog, which helps explain the process of casting.
I had a good show and new business as well as seeing several of my clients and collectors.
So I am very grateful to Stephen and the NFU/mutual for coming to the rescue, it shows really what the Mutual is all about.
